MSU obviously has a history of redirecting Buckeye seasons pound for national championship contention.

While the Buckeyes have won the majority of the matchups over the last decade, including the last five, MSU has made the annual series much more consequential, and occasionally left a few marks on Ohio State in defeat.

Saturday’s game is another massive test against the Big Ten’s standard-bearer – for these Spartans, for how far Mel Tucker’s program has come in a year, for how far it still has to go.

The Buckeyes lead the nation in total offense and scoring offense with a Heisman Trophy candidate in quarterback CJ Stroud and the best trio of receivers MSU will see this season.

MSU doesn’t want it to turn into a shootout, but it might not have a choice, and its own Heisman contender, running back Kenneth Walker III, figures to be an integral part of whatever they’re able to do offensively.

“We’ve put ourselves in position to play meaningful games in November, and so we have a tremendous challenge ahead going to Columbus this Saturday,” Tucker said.“Ohio State has an excellent football team, they’re very well-coached and they got a lot of talent, they play hard.So we’ll have to be at our best. We’re gonna have to have great preparation and great focus.

Eliminate the noise, eliminate distractions, focus on the task at hand. Our guys have shown that they have been able to do that in the past, so this week will be no different.”
